World Wildlife Day - GMIT Letterfrack-Annual Talk

This year's presentation to 1st Year Students will take place on Monday 3rd March, 2014. The talk will focus on the importance of obtaining timber from legal and sustainable sources and will coincide with the first celebration of World Wildlife Day which will be marked on 3rd March each year. This year's presentation by Just Forests will also coincide with the 1st anniversary of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) which came in to force on Sunday 3 March 2013.

3 March 2014: EU Timber Regulation-1st anniversary

Schedule Monday 3rd March: This year's presentation will focus on the need for an EU Timber Regulation. The EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) came into effect... on Sunday 3 March 2013, in a bid to stop the circulation of illegally logged timber and wood-based products in the European Union, including Ireland. 

Also students will have the opportunity to see the Wood of Life exhibition and explore how forests impacts our lives here in Ireland and the lives of communities around the world.

 

 

Schedule Tuesday 4th March:

Local primary school children will join GMIT students in exploring the Wood of Life exhibition and exchange views on the significance of forests in the debate on climate change, biological diversity and poverty.

About GMIT Letterfrack:
GMIT Letterfrack is a Centre of Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology. For the past 25 years, the campus has delivered third level programmes related to all aspects of the furniture industry. Currently the college has approximately 250 full time students. Graduates contribute to, and influence, the fields of design processes and manufacture of furniture in ways that are innovative, creative and responsive to the needs and development of a quality Irish furniture industry and are highly valued by employers.
