'Climate change has impacted on every country, but Kenya is especially vulnerable where the variations have already led to irregular weather patterns and extreme incidents of rain and drought'. Thursday 12th November, 2009 [ More]
Kenyan Prime Minister-The Hon. Raila Odinga
Climate change is the biggest threat to all our futures. It will effect every individual, every family, every community, every business and every country. Already, climate change and the competition for natural resources are destroying livelihoods, creating refugees and stoking conflicts right around the world. To allow this disaster to deepen further would be an unforgiveable injustice - for whilst it is the richest countries that have caused this degradation, it is the poorest who are suffering its worst effects. The next two months will be crucial for the future of the billions of people.. The global talks ending in Copenhagen must succeed in halting climate change if we are to avoid catastrophic changes to the world’s climate. Already, the lives of millions of the most vulnerable people are being destroyed by climate change.
As Copenhagen approaches the Government has an opportunity to deliver on their commitment to climate change, which was central to the formation of current government. It’s time to deliver on the commitment to tackle climate change. And we are calling all schools in Ireland to send a message to the Taoiseach on this crucial issue.
Schools can send their message to the Taoiseach by filling in the on-line form below and we will put the message on this page for you. We are also asking each participating school to create a colourful banner with "SEAL THE DEAL" Taoiseach on it and your school name then take a photograph (optional) of pupils and teachers holding the banner and send your picture to us here at Just Forests to put on this page with your message.
Shortly before the talks commence in Copenhagen we will invite a representative from all participating schools to hand-deliver the messages to the Taoiseach before he leaves for Copenhagen.
With the world hurtling towards catastrophic climate change delay will increase the chances of overshooting the target of restricting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius. Already, at less than one degree, hundreds of millions of people are suffering as a result of climate change.
While the financial crisis has dominated politics throughout 2009 the climate crisis continues to worsen. Copenhagen is the world’s big chance to tackle climate change and we cannot afford to lose this opportunity to avoid the worst effects of the changes already affecting the climate.
‘More than NAMA, more than the current economic crisis, climate change threatens generations to come and needs to be stopped now. We need to learn the lessons of the financial crisis and ensure that the world is not engulfed by a much larger climate crisis.

Millions of people across the world have made a Global Wake Up Call on climate change calling on you to provide leadership, act together, act now and act differently... . No part of the world is immune. We are all in this together irrespective of our level of contribution to the problem. Business-as-usual for anyone would be a tragedy. (2009)
Wangari Maathai - The Green Belt Movement
If we lose the battle against tropical deforestation, we lose the battle against climate change.
Charles - The Prince of Wales
During the past few weeks, Wangari Maathai has toured the US and Canada to speak at special events and universities and to attend high-level meetings with the UN General Assembly and the Clinton Global Initiative. She spoke with leaders, students and delegates from around the world about the importance of working together to fight climate change. Her message inspired audience members to join in the battle against environmental degradation by making changes in their own lives and by reaching out to government leaders to advocate for better environmental policies.
Message to the Taoiseach : Ashbourne Community School green schools, would be very appreciative if you, our Taoiseach would attend Copenhagen for a international global climate treaty. This we feel would benefit Ireland greatly to have the support of our government backing us! We hope you listen to this and do this for all the green schools in Ireland!
Thank you,
