On behalf of the Department of Education I can say that we are very proud to be associated with St. Peter's College, Dunboyne, with WorldWise Global Schools and with the Louth-Meath ETB to host such an outstanding and ambitious project."
'the themes and issues explored within any Development Education context are complex and challenging. Time and again young people in this country have shown extraordinary committment to values of equality, human rights and social justice both locally and globally and we have a lot to learn from their insights and actions. Creating the opportunity for second level school students to engage in peer teaching demonstrates a committment to valuing student voice and encouraging creative solutions to difficult problems such as injustice and poverty at local and global levels."
The Department of Education has a long tradition of engaging in equality and social justice themes as part of our Initial Teacher Education provision as well as on our Masters and Doctoral programmes. We have also worked closely schools for many years around Development Education and in recent times pupils from schools in Carlow, Wexford, Dublin, Meath and Kildare have facilitated workshops....."
I am sure that today's workshops and other activities will indeed empower pupils to be leaders of learning and activists both now and into the future and I look forward to meeting the participating pupils over the course of the day..."
