Just POLICY
Does your institution have a robust and credible sustainability policy? No? Well develop and implement one without delay.
Are you practicing what you preach? Preaching what you practice? Is your organization supporting Irish jobs (where appropriate) by giving preference to Irish-produced wood products?
Support our targeted advocacy work.
Just Forests continue to promote the importance of natural resources through targeted advocacy that works. Our current and past advocacy work seeks to improve the public awareness of the real issues which are having a direct impact on peoples lives, biodiversity and natural resources.
Politicians should lead by example- We are all being asked to buy Irish and support Irish jobs. Numerous politicians used Chinese plywood for their campaign posters in the last National elections in February 2011. Why did they not use FSC certified SMART PLY, which is made in Waterford from the 'thinnings' of Irish forests, which in turn provides much needed Irish jobs?
Local Authorities construct, operate and maintain economic, social and environmental infrastructure, oversee planning processes and establish local environmental policies and regulations. They are very close to the people and play a vital role in educating and mobilising the public and responding to community concerns. They must lead by example in today's world and buy Irish made goods, if we are to emerge from the economic difficulties crippling our country.
Education Institutions use vast amounts of paper on a daily basis. Universities, schools, education centers and all education facilities can influence industry by DEMANDING FSC-certified paper and wood-based products. Brochures, books and indeed all printed materials used by education institutions can then carry the message of 'sustainability' to their students.
Nature could drive growth and cut poverty in the developing world...MORE
