GMIT Letterfrack 25 Years of Excellence & Innovation

GMIT LETTERFRACK HOLD EXCITING EXHIBITION OF WORK IN FARMLEIGH GALLERY ----------GMIT Letterfrack, the National Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with a national public exhibition of student, graduate and staff work at Farmleigh Gallery, Phoenix Park, Dublin, from 2 November to 20 December.

GMIT Letterfrack, the National Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with a national public exhibition of student, graduate and staff work at Farmleigh Gallery, Phoenix Park, Dublin, from 2 November to 20 December.

Opening by Michael D. Higgins: The exhibition entitled GMIT Letterfrack 25 Years of Excellence and Innovation was officially opened by President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins last night -November 1st. The show exhibits a range of visually striking and thought-provoking finished furniture items from students and staff and also features selected works from emerging and established bespoke designer makers who are graduates of the campus such as, John Lee, Brian Murray, Dunleavy Bespoke, Martin Gallagher and Jens Kosak to name a few.

During the official opening, Dermot Donovan, Head of Department of GMIT Letterfrack said, "The Farmleigh Gallery Exhibition demonstrates the creativity and exceptional talents of students and graduates of GMIT Letterfrack and the uniqueness of the programmes on offer. As well as furniture projects, the show includes a range of two dimensional flat work, a visual presentation and relaxation area and interactive technology areas. It will be particularily interesting for people with an interest in furniture, design technology, education and creativity."

Evening lectures provided: An evening lecture series will accompany the eight week exhibition and will address themes related to furniture design, technology and teaching and learning innovations for the technology-based post-primary subjects. These will take place on November 8th and 22nd and on December 6th at 7.30pm in Farmleigh.

GMIT, a multi-campus organisation, has been providing third level programmes in the western region for the past 40 years and has currently approximately 8,000 full-time and part-time students enrolled in its programmes.

The Letterfrack campus offers honors degree programmes in Furniture Design, Furniture Technology and in Teacher Training for post-primary teachers of technology-based subjects. The quality and innovation of its programmes have made it an internationally recognised centre of excellence in its field. The GMIT Letterfrack campus is run in Partnership with Connemara West Development PLC.
