Tullamore marks International Day of Forests and International Day of Water & Energy
Forests are the most biologically-diverse ecosystems on land, home to more than half of the terrestrial species of animals, plants and insects. Forests also provide shelter, jobs and security for forest-dependent populations. Water and energy (in particular wood) are closely interlinked and interdependent.
Bridge Shopping Centre, Bridge Street, Tullamore, Co Offaly -beside the Post Office. 20th March at 10:00 am to 22nd March 2014 at 6:00 pm
Just Forests Wood of Life exhibition will be the centre point of activities for pupils from Tullamore schools wishing to mark the International Day of Forests on Friday 21st March and the International Day of Water & Energy on Saturday 22nd March, 2014.
Our programme of education and awareness raising going forward will cut to the heart of why water & energy are inextricably intertwined and so urgently needs to be acknowledged and acted upon. Our programme will make it much easier for the Irish public to accept the proposed water charges coming down the line when they realise the global as well as the local impacts of water & energy security.
As we deliberate on the post-2015 development agenda, let us acknowledge the vital role of forests and pledge to work together to protect and sustainably manage these vital ecosystems.
