Lions Club Comes to the Rescue

15th June 2015
Tullamore Lions Club, Coughlan Engineering Ltd, Tullamore Credit Union and Scanlon Solicitors have all responded favourably to Just Forests call for financial support for their development education work with Offaly schools.
During May 2015, Just Forests contacted a number of groups in Offaly requesting financial support for their development education work with Offaly schools and according to Just Forests founder and voluntary coordinator Tom Roche, "We are delighted with and most grateful for the response we have received to date from local business and community bodies".
In September 2015 a number of schools in the Tullamore area will receive copies of Just Forests education resource for primary schools entitled, Thinking TREES: Development, Trees and our Interdependant World is designed for 5th and 6th class primary and 1st year post-primary. It seeks to encourage students to explore the importance of trees and forests in our daily lives. It also stimulates them to think about some of the consequences of the loss of forests and trees and how, each of us can contribute positively to sustainable development.
This resource will help teachers embed a development education perspective in the curriculum and meets all NCCA (National Council for Curriculum and Assessment) guidlines.
Thinking TREES was 'piloted' in a number of schools across Ireland with significant teacher/pupil inputs.
