UNEP launch report on Ogoni oil spills
Oil spills have devastated forests and communities worldwide
9th August 2011
The widespread pollution of Ogoni land as documented does not come as a surprise because the manifestation is physical and people have been living in that putrid situation of decades now. What is shocking is that some land areas are impacted by hydrocarbon pollutants to depths exceeding 5 metres! The water bodies are coated with hydrocarbons above 1000 times allowed by the WHO.
The Ogoni report validates our claims on the damage to the Niger Delta environment and also presents grounds for more work to be done!
The Ogoni report by UNEP has just been released in Nigeria.
