26th September 2011
As the founder of The Green Belt Movement, Wangari Maathai was a hugely inspirational figure who worked tirelessly for a fairer and greener planet.
"As far back as 1990 Just Forests were hugely influenced by the vision and dedication of this African woman who instinctively knew that the global population needed to urgently recognise and appreciate the significance of forests to our survival," according to Tom Roche, founder/coordinator of Just Forests.
"Our thoughts are with her family and her colleagues in the Green Belt Movement - she has left a wonderful legacy for people in Kenya and the wider world."
