...but dont take our word for it take a closer look at the findings!
Scientific evidence from thousands of experts points to one conclusion - the richness of life on Earth is at serious risk. Natural habitats and resources are being destroyed. Finely-balanced systems are collapsing. We know more than ever before about our planet - and about what makes life tick.
The evidence comes from credible worldwide bodies and independent experts such as:
- The European Environmental Bureau
Forest destruction is costing the global economy US$2 to $5 trillion per year-more than Wall Street has lost since the start of the current financial crisis
- The United Nations
It's Millennium Ecosystems Assessment found that species are disappearing 1,000 times faster than would happen naturally.
- The UN Environment Programmes
UNEP says 80% of new chemicals introduced between 2002 and 2003 as medicinal drugs were developed from, or inspired by, natural products.
- International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources
IUCN said in 2009 that 1 in 5 mammals are threatened with extinction.
- World Bank
It says 1.6bn people depend on forests for their livelihoods.[iv] Many of them are the world's poorest.
- International Year of Forests - 2011
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests.
